Lead Engine Programmer

We're a remote-first company, but we believe people should be able to work where they can be most productive. Currently, we can employ in the United States and Canada. We also have offices in Los Angeles and Seattle for those interested in hybrid or full-time office work.
 
We are looking for a Lead Engine Programmer to own the technological foundations of our player experiences. If you have an excellent understanding of modern game engine architecture, are an expert in building and optimizing low-level systems, and deeply believe in the critical importance of good tools and pipelines, then this role could be for you. As Lead Engine Programmer, you will be responsible for the overall quality and performance of our core engine and tools. You will provide leadership across the entire team as we navigate the tradeoffs between creative and technical requirements. You will set technical direction for engine features and proactively identify ways to boost efficiency at runtime and in our development workflows. You will build and guide a small team dedicated to driving our technological foundation forward. As a key member of our engineering team, you will help foster a culture of collaborative problem-solving, technical excellence, and continuous education and improvement.



Responsibilities
  • Ensure the engine meets performance, stability, and scale requirements.
  • Own the overall strategy and technical direction for the development and improvement of engine features.
  • Collaborate with content teams to improve their workflows and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance for other engineers to improve performance and stability across all game code.
  • Hire and manage a small team of engineers dedicated to engine and tools development.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director on the long-term game engine strategy for the studio.



Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in game development with a focus on engine architecture and low-level systems.
  • Expert C/C++ programming and debugging skills.
  • Expert understanding of modern console and PC hardware architectures and performance characteristics.
  • Strong confidence in identifying, communicating, and navigating complex tradeoffs across departments.
  • Proven ability to design and build complex systems upon which many components of a game depend.
  • Experience as a manager and a desire to learn and grow as a leader.



Nice to Haves
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine.
  • Experience working on competitive multiplayer games and/or live service games.
Compensation: We believe that a team that builds together wins together. Because of that, our compensation packages consist of competitive industry standard base salaries, an annual bonus, and royalties. For this specific role, the base salary range is $225,000 to $275,000, with the final salary offered dependent on job-related skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
