About The Opportunity

WhereTo is looking for a Prototype Engineer to join our prototyping team as we tackle some of those most interesting problems in business travel. WhereTo is a nimble, startup-minded team within the larger company focused on building the next-generation business travel platform that serves two of Flight Centre's main businesses: SMB travel handled by Corporate Traveler and Enterprise travel handled by FCM.

A great fit for this role is someone who is always intrigued by new technology, is comfortable working in a fast paced remote environment, is a team player, and is comfortable ideating and building quickly. The ideal candidate thrives in uncertain environments and enjoys the art of the possible.

As a member of the prototyping team you will work closely with WhereTo leadership to test hypotheses, explore new ideas, and build rapid prototypes for user and market testing.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the prototyping team, you will work closely with your team and WhereTo leadership to test hypothesis and explore new ideas
Will translate new ideas into tangible software prototypes
Design user interfaces that are representative of the final product
Create mockups and interactive UI elements to give stakeholders a visual representation of the software's look and feel
Work closely with stakeholders to understand software concept, requirements, and objectives
Help conduct usability testing sessions with end-users or stakeholders to gather feedback on the prototype's user experience

Experience & Qualifications

More than 4 years experience in a software development role
Strong communication skills and ability to articulate ideas clearly
Experience with building and architecting high quality software from scratch
Experience in a start-up or R&D team a bonus
Skilled in rapid application development techniques and tools that allow them to create prototypes quickly.
This may involve using low-code or no-code platforms, wire-framing tools, or other prototyping software.
Strong experience with client side frameworks such as react or angular
Experience building mobile applications - react native a bonus
Experience with state containers (i.e Redux, Alt, Flux)
JavaScript testing experience (Mocha, Jasmine and Jest)
Experienced in Agile development and TDD / BDD Strong Node.js and TypeScript skills
Working knowledge of data science and related technologies is a bonus
Experienced with AWS, EC3, S3, RDS, CloudFront/CDNs
Expert with Linux, Ubuntu/Debian (BASH scripting a plus)
Experience with CI platforms (Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis, etc)
Experience with REST-based Web Service API implementation
Experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL (or similar) and understanding of how they work internally
Experience with Algorithms and Data Structures
Experience with NoSQL databases is desirable (i.e MongoDB, Cassandra)
Experience with memory cache systems (Redis, Memcached)
Experience with other systems programming languages is a bonus (Go, C/C++, Rust, etc), and/or scripting languages (Python) and/or JVM-based languages (Scala, Java, Groovy)
Strong experience in designing and implementing highly horizontally-scalable architecture Strong understanding of Git fundamentals
Strong understanding of Docker fundamentals

The role can be performed onsite, remote or on a hybrid schedule, in compliance with the Company’s Remote and Flexible Work Policy.

This position may be performed remotely anywhere within Canada in accordance with the company’s Remote and Flexible Work Policy except for the province of PEI

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of $115,000- $135,000. Base salary is dependent on relevant factors, including experience, geographic location, and job requirements.
