The Opportunity: 

We are looking for an Intermediate Data Engineer to join our Engineering team at Certn. In this role, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of data operations within our organization. Reporting directly to the Data Engineering Team Lead, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining data ingestion pipelines, supporting stakeholders by providing accurate product usage and financial data models and reporting, and ensuring the seamless operation of data systems. This role is vital for our data-driven decision-making processes by ensuring reliable and timely data availability.

For you to knock this role out of the park, you will need to leverage your strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative mindset. Your expertise in data engineering tools and technologies will be crucial as you work to maintain and optimize our data systems and support various business needs. This position requires a unique blend of technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and stakeholder collaboration, making you an essential part of our data team.

At Certn, as an Intermediate Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building scalable data pipelines that power our insights and reporting. You’ll work with tools like Databricks, Looker, and AWS native solutions to ensure our data is accessible, accurate, and useful. If you’re passionate about delivering end-to-end data solutions and optimizing systems, this role is for you.

 

As our Intermediate Data Engineer, you can expect to:
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data ingestion pipelines from various sources, including Fivetran and internally managed pipelines, ensuring efficient and reliable data flow into our systems.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to ensure the smooth operation of data systems, minimizing downtime and maintaining continuous data availability.

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data integrity and reliability, providing stakeholders with accurate and trustworthy data for decision-making.

  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and reports to support business decision-making.

  • Utilize Databricks, Python, Spark/PySpark, Looker, SQL, and other tools to analyze data and generate insights.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members in data analysis and reporting tasks.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business processes, data requirements, and ensure the accuracy of product usage and financial data model outputs.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement data solutions that meet business needs.

  • Evaluate and recommend new data tools and technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the data engineering team to enhance overall product quality and data processes.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering and implement innovative solutions.

 

We’re hoping you’ll bring:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or a similar combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.

  • Aptitude with Databricks, Spark/PySpark/SparkSQL.

  • Familiarity with Looker and dbt.

  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining data ingestion pipelines.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex systems and new requirements.

  • Ability to work in an agile development environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

The following will be considered an asset: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Databricks Certifications.

  • AWS Certifications.

  • Some experience related to finance and accounting systems 

  • Some experience related to machine learning & AI
